Roman Antoninianus Coins

Inv. No.: c140
Date: A.D. 257-268 (Hayes).
Weight: 1.92g

Obv.: Gallienus, radiate, draped, cuirassed.
GALLIENVS AVG.

Rev.: Mars standing, spear in left hand, branch in right hand, shield at foot.
VIRTVS AVG.
Mintmark indiscernible.

In the reverse legend VIRTVS is broken in two places by the trophy and the helmet plume, an aesthetic misfortune, but the usual fine head on the obverse is some compensation.

Comparanda:
RIC, Gallienus 329.
