VENERI GENETRICI

Tradition has it that the marriage of Hadrian and Sabina was unhappy. This seems likely in the light of his liason with Antinous. It is possible then that the coins honouring Sabina were minted at the command of her adopted son, Antoninus Pius, after Hadrian death in 138.
