In A.D. 89 Domitian general Julianus defeated Decebalus of Dacia at Tapae. Domitian also waged war against the Marcomanni, the Suebi and the Iasyges. In November he returned to Rome and celebrated a double triumph. The coin is a tribute of thanks to Jupiter for a successful year campaigning.
