[A.]ALBIN[VS S.F.]

The moneyer A. Postumius may have been a son of Spurius Postumius Albinus, consul in 110 B.C. Both sides of the coin allude to the battle of Lake Regillus (see on coin 29), at which the Roman army was commanded by Postumius?ancestor, A. Postumius Albinus. On the eve of the battle a special sacrifice was made to Diana in her temple on the Aventine. The horsemen on the reverse recall how A. Postumius Albinus threw the whole force of his cavalry against the enemy infantry, and so not only won the battle, but recovered his standards.
