Ulrike Kappler

Dr. Ulrike Kappler’s research involves the study of metabolic pathways used by a variety of bacterial enzymes to turn over toxic sulfur compounds. In particular, the group is interested in sulfite oxidising enzymes that contribute to bacterial virulence. Dr. Kappler is also focused on investigating metalloenzymes that are involved in key energy-generating processes, and respiratory enzymes that can aid pathogens in colonizing specific niches in the host with the aim of exploiting these systems as future drug targets. Dr. Kappler is an ARC Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, The University of Queensland.
