Dr. Scott Beatson’s research projects are aimed to better understand the molecular mechanisms of infectious disease by using the genomes of medically important bacteria (e.g. Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and key virulence factors that are widely conserved amongst bacterial pathogens (e.g. fimbriae, pili and type III secreted effectors).

This genomic data can be exploited to identify potential therapeutic targets. In addition, Dr. Beatson is interested to develop advanced bioinformatics software to effectively utilise “Next Generation” genome sequence data.

Dr. Beatson is an Australian Research Council Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at The University of Queensland.
