Professor Mark Ragan’s research aim is to make quantitative inferences about how genomes, gene, and protein families, regulatory networks, and cellular functions have evolved and diversified.

Using advanced bioinformatic and computational analysis of sequence data from prokaryotes, including pathogens, Prof. Ragan aims to understand

  1. the nature and patterns of vertical and lateral genetic transfer,
  2. tempo and mode of genome evolution,
  3. the nature and evolution of networks of genetic regulation, protein-protein and other biomolecular interaction, metabolism and function, and
  4. system behaviour, pathogenicity and virulence.
