Services and Facilities for RHD Students
The School runs across two campuses, Gatton and St Lucia. At the St Lucia campus we are located in the Hartley Teakle (83) and Hines (62) Buildings. At the Gatton campus we are located in Management Studies Annex (8117A), Plant Protection (8107), Plant Industries (8111), and Animal Studies (8150) Buildings. The School administration at Gatton is located in the Management Studies Annex (8117A) and at St Lucia in the Hartley Teakle Building (83).
When you arrive on campus you should arrange a meeting with our School RHD Administrative Officer on your start date who will guide you through an online commencement process that will allow the Graduate School to finalise your enrolment so you may commence your studies.
Once enrolled, you can use mySI-net to maintain your enrolment online, alter personal details and view other useful information about your candidature.
It is a requirement for all new students to attend a school Occupational Health and Safety induction. These inductions will be held every Tuesday at both campuses. Please contact SAFS reception or OHS Officers to add your name to the list (you will not be able to access keys until this has been completed) and Appendix 5 at the end of this booklet must be completed before attending the induction.
Graduate School induction sessions provide new research students with vital information for their candidature at The University of Queensland. Once you have been enrolled, please visit the Career Development page and register for the next induction session for new RHD candidates. While you are there, you may wish to use the filter function to search for and enrol in some of the many other skills and training courses that the University provides.
All RHD candidates will need a student card. To obtain a student card once you have enrolled, please take your UQ letter of offer and a photo ID (e.g. your driver's licence or passport) to one of the following locations:

Level 2 Prentice Building (42)

Student Centre (8101A)

A telephone will be available in each room for internal/local calls only. If you need to make calls other than local, you will need to complete a form and get your advisor’s approval.
Keys and security
New students will be issued with keys to their office/building on arrival after their OHS induction. The cost for keys is a refundable $50 from the finance section. The refund is available on leaving the program. DO NOT swap keys with others students. Please register with reception if you are changing spaces.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO LOCK AND SECURE ROOMS AND BELONGINGS WHEN YOU LEAVE THEM (ESPECIALLY AFTER HOURS). VALUABLES ARE NEVER SAFE.
If you intend to be in the building after hours using a lab space, you will need to fill in a Working After Hours form which should be signed by your supervisor.
Photocopiers are available for research higher degree students in the various school locations across both campuses. Access to the copier is with your student ID card for copying, printing or scanning. There is a charge for copying and printing and this will be billed to your advisor.
Both main administration buildings have mail rooms St Lucia (83 and 62); Gatton (8117A). Incoming mail is sorted into student pigeon-holes alphabetically. If you are unsure of where your mail is, please ask reception/admin staff at either location. Outgoing mail should be put into the designated mailbag locations, all are clearly signed. Mail is collected and delivered twice daily, at 10.00am and again at 2.30pm St Lucia campus and 9am and 2pm at Gatton campus.
There are 2 school vehicles (St Lucia campus) that can be hired. One is a “clean car” for meetings and travelling to Gatton and the other for field trips. The University also has a UQ Fleet Service on both campuses where you can book cars for travel and field trips. Before you drive any university vehicle you must complete an Authority to Drive Form. These forms are available from reception at both campuses. Submit the form and a copy of your Queensland driver’s licence to the reception office for signing. Please make sure that your licence is up-to-date and if an overseas licence it must be in English. Students who need to take the vehicles off-road and/or engage 4WD in the course of their field work will need to complete a Driver Training course before you will be allowed to hire this type of University vehicle. Please see Kaye Vockenson (St Lucia - 51173) or John Swift (Gatton - 50281) for further information.
Please make sure you notify your advisor when you will be away on field work and provide them with contact details in case of an emergency.
- Risk assessments must also be completed prior to departure on field trips.
