Aijing Liu, a SAFS student who was recently awarded her MPhil in Equine Reproductive Endocrinology was excited to see a familiar face in Kentucky when she unexpectedly met up with Luke Gilbert, an undergraduate in Equine Science at an industry dinner. Luke was undertaking a Kentucky Equine Management Internship and Aijing a Dubai International Thoroughbred Internship when they caught up in Lexington last year. Luke had assisted Aijing with sample collection during her MPhil studies.

Aijing was one of the 22 interns chosen from over 750 applicants. The internship is offered to Chinese nationals who have a tertiary qualification and Aijing’s experience with horses following her Master in Animal Studies and Master of Philosophy at The University of Queensland gave her a head start. Luke completed both the Stud Management and Yearling Sales Internships in Lexington and it was a chance meeting with Aijing who was assigned to the Darley Stud property ‘Jonabell Farm’ also in Lexington, Kentucky.
