Tutors@UQ - Induction and Training

The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences is dedicated to the provision of a quality learning experience. As such, we give high priority to the professional development and support of our staff.
There are two components to the Tutor Training / Induction Program. Each of these is compulsory for all newly appointed staff and must be completed. These sessions constitute work; as such attendance/completion is recorded and remunerated accordingly.
1.      The Online Occupational Health and Safety, Privacy and Fire Safety training modules:
Casual tutors will be paid a flat rate of one hour upon completion of induction training. This hour will be automatically added to a timesheet once HR is notified by OH&S as to who has completed the training. This is mandatory and a condition of your employment.
Online Health and Safety Training - to be completed once
Annual Fire Safety and Privacy Training - to be completed annually
2.      The Faculty of Science tutor training:
The Faculty of Science holds training sessions for all new tutors at both UQ St Lucia and UQ Gatton. Please note that all new tutors are expected to attend. You will be paid for 4 hours of training time, and lunch will be provided. Please contact Karli Kollegger @ for further details.
The program is built around the Tutors@UQ program, developed by the University as a major project that included considerable consultation with tutors, staff and students in 2009/10. Each tutor will be given a learner Guide to assist them and serve as a reference point during their tutoring career at UQ.

A third session will run during the semester, and will provide opportunities for a debrief on your experiences in your first semester of tutoring, as well as addressing any further questions that may have arisen during your tutoring, and canvassing strategies on how to continue to improve your tutoring.

The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences provides tutors with the following:
·         Course materials and texts
·         Assessment Guidelines – to assist in evaluating assessment
·         Access to the School’s computer network, printers and photocopiers
·         Stationery
·         Room to meet with students as required
Tutors should meet with their course coordinator to discuss tutorial material and procedures prior to commencement of classes. Mentoring is also available for new tutors.
