Future Agronomist Michael Wellington has received the support of industry and government through a Horizon Scholarship valued at $5000 a year for the duration of his University of Queensland Agricultural Science degree.

Mr Wellington was thrilled at winning the scholarship which will provide financial support, industry placement and networking opportunities with other agriculture students and professionals.

“Receiving sponsorship from the Cotton Research and Development Corporation has given direction to my studies and is very motivating,” Mr Wellington said.

“Engaging with industry will provide me with future contacts and the experience will be invaluable. I hope to gain a greater insight into the current issues concerning Australian agriculture.”

“I am excited about my career in agriculture and working to be a part of the challenge of sustainably feeding and providing fibre for a rapidly growing population,” he said.

Sixteen undergraduate students across Australia have received Horizon Scholarships which is an initiative run by the Australian Government Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation to support the next generation of Agriculturalists. The initiative has a number of industry partners including Cotton Research and Development Corporation who have sponsored Mr Wellington.
