Native Wildlife Teaching and Research Facility

The Native Wildlife Facility was established in 2008 to support teaching and research in Australian native wildlife. Students enrolled in the wildlife program undertake practical classes in the facility and are required to volunteer time within the native wildlife precinct as part of their degree requirement.

The facility currently oversees captive breeding programs for three endangered species (Julia Creek dunnart, bridled nailtail wallaby and mahogany glider). The facility also maintains a group of the common blue-tongue lizard for teaching and research purposes.

Postgraduate and other research is conducted in the facility as well as in collaboration with external zoological institutions and government agencies. The facility is regularly involved in UQ engagement activities.
