Types of Program
Research degree programs require postgraduate students to undertake a program of research in an approved area over a number of years.
Postgraduate students may apply to study for the degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) within the Centre. Each student will be enrolled through a School which reflects their discipline major
Research Candidature
Research higher degree candidates have a responsibility to be aware of and to abide by the General Award Rules Part 4, other relevant Rules (such as the Enrolment Rules) published by the University of Queensland Calendar series, the information contained on the Graduate School website, and school policies and requirements.
Candidates also have a responsibility to maintain regular contact with their advisors.

Research Scholarships
The Scholarships Office administers postgraduate research scholarships for students undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program. These include the Australian Government awards such as the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), UQ scholarships and scholarships funded from external funding organisations.
These include:
- Internal awards for both Australian and international students for postgraduate research study, and
- Research grants and fellowships for postdoctoral researchers.
