ACPACS provides professional consultancy and training services to individuals, private sector and non-profit organisations and government departments in the areas of conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation, communication, intercultural relations, and strategies for promoting peace and stability. ACPACS draws on interdisciplinary expertise in the social, political, economic, legal, ethnic and cultural contexts of conflict in local, national and international arenas. ACPACS professional development workshops are led by world-class experts in these fields.
Current practitioners will improve their understanding and gain practical skills in the expanding field of conflict resolution. Professionals with a background in a related field, will be able to add new dimensions to their work and strengthen their involvement in their organisation. Our workshops also allow those wishing to gain entry into the field opportunities to better position themselves.
All our workshops in mediation and conflict resolution are recognised and accredited postgraduate courses. Participants who have an undergraduate degree may have the option of enrolling as postgraduate participants and undertaking additional written assessment for each workshop. The workshops will then be credited towards a Graduate Certificate, a Graduate Diploma or a Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution at The University of Queensland (see Postgraduate Coursework Programs).
The Centre is also offering one-day
additional training for past professional development participants now seeking to become accredited Mediators.
Teaching Methods
All our workshops are specifically designed to encourage active learning. They involve a mix of content delivery and practical activities. Participants receive individualised coaching and constructive feedback on their performance throughout the workshop, and are encouraged to reflect on, and continuously develop, their learning.
Each participant is provided with a high-quality and comprehensive folder of materials for each workshop; a useful reference tool for the future.
All participants receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the workshop.
Trainers and Coaches
ACPACS trainers are internationally respected practitioners and award-winning teachers. ACPACS' three lead trainers are
Professor Tania Sourdin,
Professor Nadja Alexander and
Dr Samantha Hardy. Other ACPACS staff trainers are
Mr Stephen Hooper,
Dr Polly Walker and
Mr Serge Loode. ACPACS also employs a number of external specialist trainers for selected workshops. Experienced practitioners and mediators provide coaching and individual feedback to participants during the workshop.
See more information about our presenters.
Professional accreditation and CPD points
All participants who complete our five-day Mediation workshop will be eligible to undertake additional assessment to become accredited as mediators under the new National Mediator Accreditation Standards.
Our International Commercial Arbitration workshop is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London. Participants who complete this workshop can apply to become Associate Members (ACIArb) of the Institute.
Many of our workshops also provide CPD points for a number of professional organisations with continuing education requirements.
Please contact us for further information.
Location and Dates
The workshops are taught at the ACPACS Melbourne training rooms in the city centre and at the St Lucia campus in Brisbane. Some workshops are also taught in Sydney. Workshops may also be taught at your premises if that is more convenient. Our presenters are happy to travel.
Most of our workshops are scheduled to run a number of times each year. Additional workshops may be scheduled at a time convenient for both your organisation and ACPACS presenters. Workshops may be repeated if there are sufficient numbers.
Evaluation
ACPACS is committed to continuous improvement of its workshops to ensure that it meets the professional needs of its clients and participants both in terms of quality of delivery and workshop content. This continuous improvement is informed by regular detailed evaluations. These evaluations consider the effectiveness of the workshops themselves, as assessed by the participants, and the desirability of revising and expanding the workshop packages.
In order to measure participant satisfaction with the workshop package, formative evaluations are undertaken, probing participant responses in the following areas:
- Quality of delivery
- Suitability of workshop design and structure to learning needs
- Currency and accuracy of materials
- Relevance of content to need
- Quality of service.
Reports against these criteria are generated after each workshop in order to track trends and support ACPACS' commitment to ongoing improvements to workshops.
