Background
Richard Brown’s areas of specialization include applied cost-benefit analysis, non-market valuation methodologies, international development and migration. He has been awarded a number of prestigious research grants from organizations including Australian Research Council, ILO, WHO, USAID, WWF. He has extensive advisory experience as an applied project and policy analyst for public and private sector organizations. His published books include: Benefit-Cost Analysis: Financial and Economic Appraisal using Spreadsheets, Cambridge University Press, 2003 (with Harry Campbell); Public Debt and Private Wealth: Debt, Capital flight and the IMF in Sudan, Macmillan, London, 1992. He has published numerous papers in international journals including; "Estimating Remittance Functions for Pacific Island Migrants" World Development, 24(4) 1997: 613-26; "Comparative Labour Market Performance of Visaed and Non-Visaed Migrants: Pacific Islanders in Australia", Journal of Population Economics, 11(3): 395-411, 1998; "The Migration of Doctors and Nurses from Pacific Island Nations" Social Science and Medicine (with John Connell; in press 2003); “A model of Migrants’ Remittances with Human Capital Investment and Intrafamilial Transfers” International Migration Review, Vol.39(2): 407-438 (with Bernard Poirine).
