Laboratory Science
ACCMER's analytical expertise is enhanced through collaboration
with the Centre
for Phytochemistry and Pharmacology at SCU covering all areas
of phytochemistry and plant pharmacology including
• Anti-inflammatory assays • Extraction, fractionation
and • Coagulation studies
• Antioxidant assays identification of active plant constituents • Inflammation
markers
• Immune modulation studies • Cytotoxic studies • Bone and
cartilage markers
• Anti-cholesterol assays • Tissue culture studies • Antimicrobial
activity assays
• Fibrinolysis assays
Laboratory research undertaken by ACCMER
ACCMER has many examples of chemistry and biological activity
analyses for clients involving the above tests. These include studies
on Australian mistletoes, Australian white cedar,
Australian
sandalwood
oil, Macadamia kernels, Violet Leaves, Horsetail and a range of
plants used in indigenous Australian and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
ACCMER has also looked at genes associated with osteoarthritis and
development of an automated plate method for determining fibrinolysis.
An example of laboratory research undertaken for an industry
client can be read in "in
vitro biological
activities of Healtheries' Biolane™ "
Laboratory expertise
Laboratory research undertaken by ACCMER includes tests
that 'Screen for Normal Function'. This is used for Safety Assessment
and includes Liver Function Tests (LFTs), Urea Electrolytes Creatinine
(UECs) and
Full Blood Count (FBC) to monitor the safety of the trial agents
during clinical trials. These tests detect possible adverse hepatic,
renal
and haemopoietic effects. We also do Fibrinolysis, Coagulation,
Inflammation, Bone and Cartilage Turnover.
Additional capabilities
Experienced ACCMER laboratory staff are able to offer a wide range
of additional tests tailored to specific requirements e.g. rheumatoid
factor, cotinine, glucose and a wide range of hormones.
