The Research Higher Degrees Committee is responsible for the provision of advice to the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of the Graduate School on policies and practices for research higher degree programs (PhD and MPhil) and higher doctorates. The Committee consults other senior officers of the University as required. The role of the Committee is: to advise the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Board on research higher degree studies; to formulate recommendations on policy for the strategic development of research higher studies in the context of the University’s strategic plan; to promote and maintain a standard of excellence in research higher degrees; to promote and foster research higher degree study; and, to advise the Academic Board on proposals for changes in policy and rules governing research higher degree programs, including equity issues.
