List of Queensland Rhodes Scholars from 1904 to the present

The RHODES TRUST offers nine Rhodes Scholarships in Australia each year, one for each state and three for Australia at Large. A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. All fees are paid by the Trust direct to the college. In addition, a Rhodes Scholar receives a personal stipend and assistance with travelling expenses to the U.K.

Applications for the Queensland Rhodes Scholarship are invited from those who have passed their 18th birthday but not reached their 25th birthday by 1 October in the year of application.

After applications have been received, the Selection Committee members will review each application. The Committee will meet on Monday, 3 November 2008 to prepare a short list, normally of up to six candidates to be interviewed. Interviews will be held at Government House the following week, on Wednesday, 12 November. At the end of the interview process, the Committee will select the Queensland Rhodes Scholar and, if one or two runners-up are thought to be of sufficient merit, they will be nominated to go to Canberra to be interviewed by the Australia at Large Committee. The Canberra selections are usually held around the first week of December.

The Selection Committee is chaired by the Governor of Queensland and there are six other members, each of whom holds office for four years. Members are Ms Else Shepherd, AM, Professor Marilyn McMeniman, AM, Professor Beth Woods, OAM, Dr Tanya Plant and Mr Michael Rosengren. The sixth member of the Selection Committee will be confirmed by the Rhodes Trust in due course.

Please note: Applications for the 2009 Rhodes Scholarship closed on Monday, 1 September 2008.
