Areas of responsibility
Ms Collins is Secretary to the University Senate and acts as the University’s public officer. Her other responsibilities include:
- Governance, compliance and regulation
- University legislation
- Provision of legal advice
- Supervision of the operations of Assurance and Risk Management Services
Biography
Dorothy has been General Counsel at the University since May 2007. Prior to joining the University, Dorothy practised as a lawyer in Perth and was a lecturer at Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia.
Dorothy’s primary areas of practice whilst in private practice were commercial and corporate law. Dorothy has substantial experience in corporate fundraising, intellectual property, information technology and administrative law. She also provided high level legal advice to several tertiary institutions in Western Australia.
Dorothy has lectured in various areas of law including intellectual property law and Trade Practices law. From 2004 – 2007 she lectured in drafting, conveyancing and commercial practice at the University of Western Australia.
She is a member of the Law Society of Queensland, the Society of University Lawyers (Australia) and the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Notre Dame Law School (USA).
