Areas of responsibility
As Executive Dean, Professor Schaffer is responsible for the academic leadership and management of the Faculty. The role includes accountability for all aspects of academic programs, staff management and resource allocation for schools and centres in the Faculty, as well as representation of the Faculty and University to the wider community.

Biography
Professor Graham Schaffer has been at The University of Queensland since 1991 and has served as the Head of the Materials Division in the School of Engineering, Research Director for the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture and Head of the School of Engineering. Prior to joining the University, Professor Schaffer was a University Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Western Australia.

Professor Schaffer’s research is concerned with particulate metals processing and the light metals. His early research on mechanical alloying led to the formation of Antaria Limited, an advanced materials company listed on the ASX. More recently, he has pioneered the development of sintered aluminium alloys for the automotive industry and infiltrated aluminium alloys for rapid manufacturing. Current research is primarily concerned with sintering of titanium and its alloys. He is a Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals and Executive Editor of the journal Powder Metallurgy. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and the American Powder Metallurgy Institute (APMI International). Professor Schaffer is an Honorary Professor at Central South University in China and has been a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
