Areas of responsibility
Dr Anna Ciccarelli has university-wide portfolio responsibility for international development, policy and strategy at The University of Queensland. Functions under her direct management include UQ International and the Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education.


Biography
Dr Ciccarelli joined UQ as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (International) at The University of Queensland in April 2010.

Dr Ciccarelli was awarded Doctor of Education (1996) and Master of Education (Administration and Management) (1993) from the University of Sydney, Postgraduate Diploma in TESOL (1987) from Salisbury CAE, Diploma of Education (1974) and Bachelor of Arts (1974) from Flinders University.

She was the Principal of a private English language college in Sydney for seven years. In 1996 she became the first graduate of the University of Sydney’s Doctorate of Education. Her doctoral work explored organisational theorising from a critical-pragmatist perspective.

Dr Ciccarelli joined UniSA in 1998 as Manager of the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences before being appointed as Director of UniSA International in 2001. From 2004 to 2010 she was Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President, International and Development, UniSA, with portfolio responsibility for UniSA International, the Marketing and Development Unit and the Samstag Museum of Art.

Her professional and research interests include educational and ELT management and leadership, policy and strategy in international education, internationalisation of the curriculum, transnational education and student mobility. Dr Ciccarelli has authored or co-authored a number of publications in her field of expertise.

Dr Ciccarelli served as a member of the Education Adelaide Board of Directors. She was a member of the DEEWR/Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) English Language Steering Committee that produced the Good Practice Principles in English Language Proficiency and an Honorary AUQA Auditor. Dr Ciccarelli was the inaugural Vice President of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and instrumental in its establishment.

Dr Ciccarelli is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the University of DaNang-University of Queensland English Language Institute, DaNang, Vietnam (an unincorporated joint venture) and the University of Queensland-Universidad Catolica del Norte English Language Institute (an unincorporated joint venture); Chair of The University of Queensland’s Confucius Institute Board; a member of the International Education Association of Australia Board; as well as serving on the IELTS Australia Industry Advisory Group.
