Honours Program Students intending to take Honours should include RELN1000 in their Undergraduate Major in Studies in Religion. A total of 16 units Studies in Religion subjects must be taken, including at least 10 units from one "Major" area, e.g. Contemporary, Eastern, Western etc. Students wishing to take Honours should have a GPA in RELN subjects of at least 5.5. Successful completion of an Honours degree brings considerable advantages, not least in opening up possibilities for postgraduate study in Australia and abroad. CLASS OF HONOURS Recommendations on the class of Honours degree
to be awarded are made by the Department to the Dean of Arts for transmission through the Board of the Faculty of Arts to the Senate of the University.
Recommendations that the degree be awarded are determined by a meeting of the staff of the Department which reviews the entire record of an Honours
student. The Department places most weight on performance in the final year, with particular attention given to the thesis (RELN6002/3). It also takes
into consideration the grades obtained in advanced and introductory Studies in Religioncourses. The following are used as guidelines by the Department
in determining its recommendations on grades of Honours.
