Assessments & Assignments

The method of assessment is a matter for decision by the lecturer in charge in consultation with the class concerned following discussion at the outset of each subject. Should you have any queries in this regard prior to commencement of classes, inquiries should be directed to the relevant lecturer.

The Department has available on request copies of guidelines for the preparation of assignments. Students are advised to keep a copy of all assignments. It is desirable that all assignments be typed. Hand-written assignments must be clearly legible.

Student assistance

For problems concerning timetable clashes, presentation of assignments, extensions for assignments, collection of assignments, timetabling of departmental examinations, students should see the lecturer responsible for the subject. Complaints about courses should be directed to the Administrative Secretary who will refer them to the Head of Department. For assistance in course planning, students should initially consult the Administrative Secretary. Handicapped students should contact the Administrative Secretary who will ensure that appropriate departmental arrangements are made.

Advice concerning Higher Education Contribution Scheme payments can be obtained from the HECS Office at J.D. Story Building.

Textbooks/Timetable/Consultation Hours

A list of textbooks and a current timetable showing classrooms will be posted on the noticeboard outside the Departmental Office at the start of each semester. Copies of these may also be obtained from the office. Texts may be purchased new at the UQ Bookshop, The Open Book at Milton, QU Books at Toowong or secondhand from the Student Union Bookshop. Staff consultation hours will also be posted outside the office.

Library Services

Orientation tours for new students are offered at all of UQ's libraries during Orientation Week and the first weeks of Semester I. Librarians will assist you in using the many computerised facilities now offered by the University's libraries: searching the Web and catalogues is explained at the Reference Desk in the SS&H Link and wordprocessing/printing may be done at the EI Centre, Level 2 Duhig South
