The Unit publishes a major journal, two occasional monograph series and a newsletter. The Australian Journal of Indigenous Education is a bi-annual journal covering all levels of education relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This journal was formerly titled The Aboriginal Child at School and was first published in 1973. The Unit also publishes the Ngulaig monograph series which presents the results of recent research of interest to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities in a plain-English format. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit Research Report Series presents detailed results of research conducted by Unit staff. Birra News is a fortnightly newsletter for Indigenous Australian students at the University of Queensland.

In April/May each year the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit produces a summary Annual Report reporting basic statistics and highlights from the previous calendar year.

Unit staff are also active in publishing the results of their research in a wide variety of formats from academic journals to plain-English community reports. A list of Recent Research Publications by Unit staff is available.
